Navigating Neurodiversity: Educational Support Group for Parents/Caregivers

Welcome to Navigating Neurodiversity – a supportive space for parents and caregivers raising neurodivergent children. Whether your child is autistic, has ADHD, sensory differences, learning disabilities, or other forms of neurodivergence, you’re not alone. This group is here to provide connection, understanding, and practical support from people who truly get it. We believe in celebrating neurodiversity, embracing each child’s unique strengths, and creating a safe, judgment-free community where parents can share experiences, ask questions, and grow together.

How do I know if this group is right for me?

This group might be a good fit if:

  • You’re parenting or caring for a child who is autistic, has ADHD, sensory differences, a learning disability, or another form of neurodivergence (diagnosed or suspected).

  • You’re looking for a supportive space where neurodiversity is respected and celebrated—not pathologized.

  • You want to connect with other parents/caregivers who “get it” and share similar experiences.

  • You’re tired of judgment or unsolicited advice, and want a space where your parenting choices and your child’s needs are understood.

  • You’re seeking community, not perfection—just real people navigating real challenges with compassion and honesty.

  • You’re open to learning, growing, and supporting others along the way.

  • Whether you’re new to this journey or have been on it for years, you’re looking for a place to feel seen, heard, and supported.

If any of that resonates with you, we’d love to welcome you.

What About Co-Occurring Conditions?

We recognize that many neurodivergent children also experience co-occurring conditions that impact their daily lives—and yours as a parent. In this group, we welcome open, respectful conversation around a range of co-occurring needs, including but not limited to:

  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Sensory Processing Disorder

  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Tourette Syndrome

  • Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Other Learning Disabilities

  • Speech and Language Delays

  • Sleep and Feeding Challenges

  • Chronic Health Conditions

We understand that every child is unique and that parenting often means managing a complex mix of needs—emotionally, behaviorally, physically, and educationally. This group is a space where you can talk about the full picture without fear of judgment, and gain insight from others walking a similar path. Whether your child has a formal diagnosis or you’re still exploring what’s going on, you are welcome here.

Virtual via HIPAA compliant Googlemeets. You must be physically located in the state of Maryland to participate.

Who is this group for? This group is for parents and caregivers of neurodivergent children—whether your child is diagnosed, undiagnosed, or you’re just beginning to explore neurodivergence. We welcome all caregivers, including adoptive, foster, step-parents, and guardians.

Do I need a formal diagnosis for my child to attend? Not at all. Many families are still in the process of seeking evaluations or simply identifying patterns that feel different. If you’re parenting a child who processes the world differently and are looking for support—you’re welcome here.

Is this group just for parents of autistic kids? No. While many of our members are raising autistic children, this group also supports families of children with ADHD, sensory processing differences, learning disabilities, anxiety, and other forms of neurodivergence.

What age does my kid have to be for this group to be applicable? Age may or may not hold particular meaning for shared experiences. If you are actively parenting a child or teen in your household, this group is for you.

Is the group led by professionals or parents? The group is facilitated by two licensed therapists — Megann Lee, LPA-IP and Ryan Lee, LPC. If you’d like to know more about their experience and specialties, please click here.

Is this group neurodiversity-affirming? Yes. We believe neurodivergence is a natural and valuable part of human diversity. We focus on support, not “fixing,” and reject shame-based or compliance-focused approaches.

Can I bring my child to the meetings? This is an adult-only space so parents can share openly.

Do I have to come every week? While we recommend attending consistently for the best outcome, there is no pressure. Come when you can. We understand that parenting—especially under stress or sensory overload—can be unpredictable. This space is here for you, even if you can only make it sometimes.

Is there a cost to join? There is a small fee to help cover materials and facilitation. The cost is $20 per session attended.
